Do it Yourself

I find love in Home
Depot and the wood idea
of building something.

The aisle with doors,
all possible entrances,
each carved with metrics.

*

Colors of paint splash
the palette of a future
birthed from a pure white;

glue and fixtures hide
the puncture wounds in the wall;
screws promise to stay.

*

Those with hanging heads
can look to endless ceilings,
all shelves fully stocked.

“Tool up,” and still save
money for beer and paper:
“ Re-evaluate.”

*

Scan. Beep. Bag. Checkout,
roll the squeaking cart on out.
Click your light bulb on.

Orange waves goodbye:
" Build your artful nest and leave
me, self-sufficient.”
