Anthropomorphica

Is there a creature more Brueghelian
Than a pelican?
The round and startled eyes
The unlikely thighs
The sight of a Manta Ray
And I conclude Man Ray
Not so tenuous a bridge
Manta Rays equals art deco
That moves
On the sea floor plains
On the pristine volant sand
The side-eyed flounders
wear their Jackson pollocks
And flound
If you put some Nike caps
On meerkats
You'd see the watchful youth
Who burrow into the dense
Clay of streets

The Perfect Day

On the Perfect day
The sun swamps from a seamless sky.
I’m sprawled out, etherised by the sound of a cockerels cry.
The perfect girl purrs sweet nothings to my ear
As we watch the world stir to joyful cheers.
No engines, diggers or lawnmowers in sight
Just the perfect morning after a special night.

On the Perfect day,
A newspaper sits dormant beside
With WORLD PEACE on its cover bold as life.
People play music through cobbled roads
For a simple ‘how d’you do’ you get a ride home.
There is no fighting, hot tempers and rage,
Just perfect people on a perfect day.

On the perfect day
Lunch is called late for my friends and family
Those that passed away and those still with me.
We laugh about old times, experiences we’ve had
Steve says ‘death by car accident was never that bad.’
And we’d natter and natter until our jaws would break
And the night would arrive to the perfect day.

On the perfect day,
The sound of the sea shuffles me to sleep
Laying with my lover in an orgasmic heap
My childhood toys stacked lifeless round the shack
And I suddenly feel sadness up the hairs on my back.
The perfect regret for what I hadn’t done
After the perfect day, who would want a normal one?

Hannah says:

My Sculpture questions the value of objects and their place in our lives; I choose not to fabricate materials but to use what is already in existence. The idea of these objects being given a second life or a second shot at existing is core to the work, it is my belief that through the appreciation of the works, the various objects will also be admired for their own qualities, instead of merely being seen as finished with or junk.
Little planning or preparatory sketches are made and I prefer to allow for additional space, where ideas of fate decide the outcome of the works.

There is a specific likening to unusual objects or items that seem, unidentifiable and can easily be incorporated into the works. This, I feel, provides a connection between the viewer and the work by offering considerations on both the origins of the found objects, and their new position in a sculptural context.

The relationship between my early rural and my later urban experiences can be seen in the duality of using natural materials combined with the modern, as an origin or departure point; these materials that seem, in some way, detached from each other.
