The Blemmyes were a real life nomadic tribe that lived in Northern Africa in an area south of Egypt. They often fought with the Roman’s and were depicted in fiction by them to be headless, with their faces upon their chests. They were depicted as both fierce by the Romans, and peaceful by the Greeks (although the Greeks weren’t threatening their land.)
