The Balloon that Broke away… the final curtain.

Wow, this is quite a moment… the last in the series of the Balloon that broke away.
David says:
Like mothers who kill to protect their children and like the students who violently rioted to protect their future, protect that flame in your heart and make sure you become exactly who you set out to be.
Sadly enough, this will be the last look into our friendly balloons life. Hopefully his views and adventures have made you re-think everyday happenings or at least smile now and again.
For me, creating this series has been a massive eye opener. Each piece is based on events or experiences that happen to people in my immediate vicinity. Things that make me question my beliefs on what is deemed to be right and wrong. To find one and match it to an illustration can be tricky and requires a bit of mental stimulation. I’ve found that intentionally doing things that are completely outside my comport zone is a good way of stoking up my minds idea furnace and doing a task with the intention of using it to gain insight reaps massive rewards. The coolest of which must have been giving flowers to girls on the street on the way to work (It was to get into the theme for the 3rd issue based on trying something new, whether it worked out or not).
Out of all the things I’ve learnt from doing these bladdy Balloon illustrations, the most important is that if you don’t know what you’re missing out on, what you could experience or become, there is no reason to change. T.V doesn’t cut it either, there is something addictive about experiencing something with all the 5 senses.
Thank you for being a part of this. Thanks to Matt for his write ups and Creature Mag for being a fantastic host
Now get the fuck out your house, office and comfort zone and figure out what makes you come alive.
Blatch is back!

Yes, it’s true, David Blatch is back. Returning from a couple of months of marble sorting David re-appears with a new part to his ongoing saga, The Balloon that Broke away. And that’s not all, during his sabbatical he has been developing a cool new style which he showcases in his new piece on the theme of change. Don’t worry it’s not a complete departure from his inspired street influenced characters and colourful, humourous scenes but definitely a slight change in direction for the illustrator. Change is good. We dig it, how about you?

The balloon that broke away pt 6 By David Blatch

Welcome back to our Balloon saga. After a short break for our balloon we are back with a vengeance this week with this spectacular scene from David Blatch.
We are always blown away by what David creates, the scenes, the characters, the texts, the ideas, right down to the smallest detail are all so considered, all bouncing off each other, opening up new ways of understanding the image as a whole. As well as being eye catching images with impact, they also require in depth investigation to fully understand and appreciate all the concepts and creative ideas in there. This latest piece even includes Creaturemag’s Matt Witt (as scarecrow) singing one of his songs. Brilliant!
We hope you enjoy the show.

Welcome to part 5 in our adventures of the balloon that broke away.
The world cup… what a spectacle, it certainly has Creature glued to the box every evening. David Blatch too seems to have been swept up in world cup fever.
Part 5 in his balloon saga depicts the balloon and Zakumi (The World Cup mascot) watching the game from what would seem to be the best seat in the house
We love the way that David has chosen to compose this piece, from way up above the stadium with a magnifying glass. It’s a well thought out, intriguing piece, you have to look twice to see what’s going on there, it really gives a sense of distance, height and excitement.
A great topical piece and lovely to catch up again with our Balloon that decided to grab life by the horns and pursue a life worth living….. he certainly does exist on the edge.
We hope you enjoy the show.

Welcome to part IV in our adventures of the balloon that decided to grab life by the horns and pursue a life worth living.
Some of you may have noticed that David has been missing for a couple of weeks. He took a trip back to his native South Africa catching up with some friends along the way. He seems to have been somewhat inspired by this and has created this vibrant piece with the tag “your old friends are doing mad new tricks, go check em out!”.
So take heed, and re-connect with old pals, you may be happily surprised at what you find.
We wish a warm welcome back to David and his balloon that broke away.
We hope you enjoy the show.

The balloon that broke away pt III… By David Blatch
Artist: David Blatch
Project: The balloon that broke away

Welcome to part III in our adventures of the balloon that decided to grab life by the horns and pursue a life worth living.
In this week’s adventure our balloon gets himself caught up in a bit of a mess. You see, in a moment of mad passion he was mistakenly picked up and used as a condom by these two rather freakish and revolting characters. Unfortunately, during what can only be described as a hideously unpleasant act, he fell apart and he doesn’t seem too pleased about it. As they hurriedly try to fix him up they discuss the brighter side of the accident, having a child… to do the dishes! (more…)
