We invite you to submit your moustache character, click here for brief. Submissions will be automatically entered into the Moustache Illustration awards for judging by our expert panel at the end of November. We already have over lots of entries and are expecting the competition to be pretty hot!
The top three illustrations from each of these categories – Moustache character – Moustache wearer – Moustache themed, will be awarded, as well as one special drawer’s drawer award, voted by all participants.

Moustache Illustration Awards – Brief
Project: Moustache Illustration Awards – Open submissions
Deadline: 12.00 noon (GMT) – Monday 28th November 2011
Creature loves a good moustache, so full of character they can say a great deal about the face they are sat upon. So what would your moustache look like if it were to come alive and jump from your top lip? What stories would it tell and what kind of a personality would it have developed whilst growing on your face?
During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in the UK and around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.
What to do?
Creature invites you to create your very own moustache character. Simply choose a classic moustache shape and develop it into a funny little Movember Moustache Character (just a guide, theme is open to interpretation). The moustache could stand completely on its own or be sat upon a face, it could be a quick doodle or a carefully developed personality complete with it’s very own family and history. It’s completely open to your interpretation and we can’t wait to see your moustaches come to life!
Deadline:
Send your submissions to Creature@creaturemag.com by 12.00 noon (GMT) – Monday November 28rd 2011. Throughout Movember we will collecting your Moustache creatures and publishing them all right here on Creaturemag.

27th June – We now have all the illustrations in and are currently working hard compiling the book, we also have a great non-fiction author involved who is writing a little bit about each animal. It’s shaping up to be great and will be worth the wait.
If there is anyone involved who has connections within Animal conservation organisations or charities then please let us know.
Please direct any questions to twitter @creatureABC.
The Creature Alphabet
Submissions now closed. Creature is seeking 26 Artists to take part in an exciting new collaboration… to create The Endangered Creature Alphabet.
How does it work? Each artist will be allocated a letter, each letter will represent 1 endangered animal, for example: A = Addax B = Beluga … (just examples). Each artist will then illustrate the animal to be displayed alongside the letter in the Creature Alphabet. All animals will be published as part of an e-book compiled by Creature.
Why? This project aims to encourage interaction between artists and to highlight some rare and endangered creatures at the same time as having some collaborative fun! We will be approaching animal protection organisations who we hope will help to promote the e-book.
Want to get involved? To express interest in this project please send an email with subject “alphabet” to creature@creaturemag.com – let us know about your work and why you would like to be involved.
Guidlines: Images to be created at 20×20 cm @ 300dpi in full colour on white background.
Deadline TBC - At present we are rounding up 26 of the best illustrators in town to take part (We will be taking expressions of interest until 5pm this evening (Mon16thMay). Once we have those artists we will send each one a letter and corresponding animal.
Please direct any questions to creature@creaturemag.com can’t wait to hear from you.
Pass it on! Mail music project
The Idea:
- We create 5 individually designed copies of independent folk-artist Craig Wosahlo’s new E.P All the Great Lakes. (That’s pronounced woh-sah-low in case you were wondering). Website: www.craigwosahlo.co.uk
- We send them to 5 different cities across the UK, with instructions to listen and pass it on.
- We keep track of the location of each disc via the Creature blog, where you can leave your comments and feedback on the artwork and the music whilst letting us see how far it’s travelled.
Intrigued?
We are seeking 5 illustrators to create artwork for each of the CDs . We also need 5 people to be the first to receive the CDs.
If you would like to get involved in this unique project please comment below or tweet @creaturemag
Why?
Firstly to gain exposure for independent musicians and illustrators at the same time: 5 CDs mean they are guaranteed some listening and viewing before they end up living on someone’s shelf. It’s a unique opportunity to advertise at a grass-root level and (just as importantly) be involved with something fun.
If you want a more socially-minded reason to get involved, then how about the fact it’ll be interesting to see how far we can spread creative talent? Or see just how much impact grass-root campaigning can have?
When?
Submissions will be accepted until SUNDAY 31 JULY! We will inform the successful artist via email whether their design has been selected for the album cover. All artwork will be featured on the website and album inlay. We aim to dispatch the cd’s across the UK by mid-August when you can start leaving feedback and comments on the Creature blog page, and you will be able to follow each disc’s progress online. We’ll update you with an official ‘launch’ date closer to the time.
In addition, all submissions recieved will be displayed in a gallery here at Creature along side a link to the artist’s website.
How?
To download an exclusive preview copy of All the Great Lakes, follow these simple steps:
1. email us creature@creaturemag.com with the subject title ‘Pass It On Project’
2. check your inbox for an exclusive preview link to the E.P.
3. Listen to it!
4. Create and submit your interpretation of All the Great Lakes.
For more information, contact us @creaturemag on Twitter, or comment below. Check out the preview videos by Boom Town Radio of ‘Black and Grey’, ‘Friday Night at the Movies’ and a lo-res version of an as yet unrecorded track played at Camden’s Lock Tavern earlier in the month. Makes us swoon.

Croquet Art Fest!

In April we called for artwork on the Croquet theme for publication in the June edition of The Croquet Gazette. The response we received was mind blowing, what an amazing display of creative talent. A big thank you to all the artists who took the time to take part.
The Croquet Gazette is the official printed magazine for UK croquet and is read by Croquet enthusiasts throughout the country. They have kindly agreed to give us some column inches to dedicate especially to the publication of colourful, quirky Croquet themed artwork. The pieces displayed here will all be included in the June edition of the Croquet Gazette.
Well done everyone!
