Handsome Frank Illustration Agency

Artist: Various
Title: Handsome Frank Illustration Agency
Website: www.handsomefrank.com
Creature has made a new friend; Handsome Frank Illustration Agency!
They represent some of the most talented and original commercial illustrators in the UK. Commissioning work for the advertising, editorial, publishing, retail and music industries, they match creative talent with client direction and manage the process from conception to completion.

They represent the artist, Becca Thorne who is a much treasured Creature contributor (image above). Their roster of Illustrators is impressive, a very eclectic mix of creative talent on show. They seem to have a refreshing approach and a solid ethos to back it up and most important of all, they always put their artists first!
Here is a short interview with Tom Robinson of Handsome Frank…
How did it all start?
Handsome Frank, like all the best ideas, was conceived in the pub. The agency was founded and is run by two cousins. One a designer with a commercial mind, the other a salesmen with an eye for design. A mix that seems to work.

What was your motivation?
Our motivation was the frustration that the most talented illustrators never seem to land the jobs they deserve. Illustration in advertising campaigns is more popular than ever, but remains a bit ‘safe’. Our aim is to help talented contemporary illustrators fulfill their commercial and creative potential – and make the world a brighter place along the way.
Our intention is to remain small, personalised and bespoke – boutique if you like. By having less illustrators, but by knowing more about them, their work and influences we feel we can represent our artists personally, in the way in which they’d represent themselves. We look for illustrators who are unique, and distinct from the crowd, but the emphasis is always on the quality of their work.
Who have you worked with?
Working predominantly within the editorial and advertising markets we’ve been lucky enough to work with some huge names already. Commissions from Saatchi & Saatchi, the BBC, Wired, Bloomberg, Toyota, GQ and Volkswagen to name but a few have all come in our first four months.
With 22 illustrators now on the books our aim is to seek out the most exciting, challenging and creative briefs around. Our illustrators like a challenge, and we hope to put a couple their way.
