Artist: Meera Lee
Who are you?
I’m an artist and illustrator from new jersey — part human, part mononoke.
What do you do?
I make things.
Why do you do it?
I don’t know how to stop!
How do you create these images?
I work mostly in pencil, pen, and ink. I’m exploring other mediums (wood, acrylic, oil) and hoping to implement them in future work. This is what happens: I start with a tiny little idea and let it loll about in my head, I cover it with graphite and eraser marks and watch it bloom.
Who are your influences?
I’m often awestruck by the works of Carson Ellis, Esra Roise, and Charlie Harper. Their images are always in my head and hanging in the air around me.
What inspires your work?
Nature, words, human interaction, and emotion.
What don’t you like?
Humidity, shiny clothing, affectation.
