Who are you?
We’re Monster Riot, collaborative duo Catherine McDaid and Jason Ruddy.
What do you do?
We do quirky plush creatures and delightfully eccentric illustrations. Our designs have featured in magazines, on t-shirts and on prints.
Why do you do it?
We do it because we love creating colourful quirky characters and designs! We have so many ideas for lots of eye tickling illustrations and more plushies than you can shake a stick at.
How do you create these images?
Most of our images are created digitally. We always start out of paper and doodle away in our sketch books until we embark on something that will make an interesting illustration or new plush. We then scan in sketches and do some Photoshopping until we’re happy with the result!
Who are your influences?
We have lots! We love the work of Gemma Correll, Felt Mistress, Pete Fowler, Nate Wragg, Quentin Blake and countless others!
What inspires your work?
Art, books, music, films, animals, nature, everything really. We can get influenced by things we see everyday and wanting to create stuff that people will love to wear, cuddle or look at. We love colour and texture and try to marry the two in everything we create.
What do you like?
Literature, world cinema, wooden stuff, rabbits and good food and drink. Especially tea.
What don’t you like?
Winter (apart from snow), Mondays, office jobs, Xfactor and liquorice.
