Around the world – #15 Josse Blase – Hilversum, Netherlands

Artist: Josse Blase
Location: Hilversum, Netherlands
Website: http://www.josseblase.com
Who are you, where are you from?
I am Josse Blase an illustrator from Holland.
What do you do?
I just started my own illustration company, I specialize in illustration, hand lettering and animation. I mostly make posters, wall decorations, flyers, book covers, clothing designs and many more. In my work I try to make the audience smile but also confuse them, creating friendly figures whose behavior is not always so innocent.
Why do you do it?
I want to make the world a prettier place and am living the dream making money out of my hobby!
How does the place you live impact upon your work?
Holland is often filled with clouds and cloudy people, so that’s more of a challenge for me to color the view and try to cheer up the audience. Holland does keep me sober, heineken doesn’t.
How do you create these images?
I draw with acrylic on paper, and adjust my creations using Photoshop.
Who are your influences?
The Dutch artist Piet Parra is a huge influence in my handlettering, I love the playfulness in his typography. I admire Jeremyville for creating his own world, there is so much going on in his drawings. Both artists have their own style that’s full of joy and that’s the biggest influence.
What inspires your work?
Internet, books and music.
What do you like?
Rainbows.
What don’t you like?
Taxes.
